This new immersive show was inspired by the film ‘The Greatest Showman’, giving the audience the opportunity to get up close and personal with the circus experience.
The show allows visitors to enjoy their favourite songs from the film along with exhilarating circus acts within their 700-seated ‘Big Top’ auditorium. What adds to this immersive experience is the interactive pre-show encouraging audiences to explore the vibrant world that the creative team have produced.
At the forefront of creating the space, which makes every visitor feel as if they are stepping into the film, is Emmy Award-nominated Lighting Designer Adam Bassett, for Woodroffe Bassett Design. We asked Adam “What made lighting this show so enjoyable?” to which he responded, “Simultaneously creating a show that blended the best of circus, musical theatre and immersive experience into one incredible experience”.
White Light, a d&b Solutions company, provided the lighting equipment.

Approximately 30% of the rig included the following Ayrton fixtures:
- 37 x Rivale Profile
- 13 x Ghibli
- 3 x Diablo
- 2 x Eurus Profile
When speaking about the inspiration behind lighting the show, Adam noted, “The overarching inspiration was taken from a traditional circus big top – we wanted the audience to immersive themselves in a world that was convincing and overpowering with the weird, wonderful, and surprising in equal measures. The lighting played an integral role in achieving this audience experience.”
A key moment that stuck out for Adam was lighting one of the hit musical numbers.
“The number ‘From Now On’ for me has to be a highlight of the show. The drama and power delivered with such dramatic staging is electrifying every time. Our lighting for this number is powerful yet understated, providing a moment that poignantly departs the audience from the dazzling spectacle that encompasses many other parts of the show.”
